I’m beginning to think that my endless wandering around the city taking pictures is a perfect metaphor for (and reaction to) the existential crisis that formed in my brain when I was 5 years old.
So U2’s Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For seems like a pretty good theme for my life, or at least my photography, which I would characterize as an ongoing search for meaning and connection to the world around me.
Maybe undergoing a search in the physical world is a way to avoid a search in my own heart and mind? I don’t know.
But this really is a song that speaks to me:
I have spoke with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone
But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for…
I just had to get that off my chest – though I’ll be speaking more about this in the future as part of a project I’m planning.
So yesterday, following brunch, I spent about 5-6 hours adventuring around the city, starting in Times Square, before MOMA, Central Park, the Upper West Side, the West Side Highway, back to Times Square, then Union Square.
All images were shot on a Canon 5D (original) with a 50mm lens. Call me crazy, but I’ve actually been enjoying shooting with this big-ass DSLR & lens more than my silent & light Fuji X100. More on that later… I like pictures more than cameras.
By the way, you can follow me on all the popular social media stuff here.
So here we go…
